February 17th, 2009 From: Becky Knopf - 5th & 6th Grade Teacher Dear Ones,
I thank God and you for continued support; each of your prayers for the work here and for me has great impact. Thank you for the BoxTops4Education, which bring actual money [$582 this last time] into the school fund twice a year! I am asking you to pray specifically for me this month as I have Friday morning ‘chapels’ to give. [A small group called Covenant Players was here yesterday and they took my first Friday AM - Hoooray!]
Mom came for a week in January and was a blessing to many. She cooks and cooks and loves to fellowship over a meal. [Apparently, we all do!] It was very good for us to spend all that time together.
The Wednesday evening Ladies’ class, which runs during the PeeWee basketball practice, has started up again. Cindy Lauersdorf (first grade teacher) is teaching us sign language and lots of us came to the first class, even a deaf Navajo man came – and I think he had the most fun of all! We hope to learn to sign several songs and then go perform them at a ‘nearby’ home for the “elderlies.” Field trips are always a hoot, don’t you think?
Two students from the school went to Albuquerque this weekend to compete in a Spelling Bee. I have heard that they both took fifth place; COOL! Miss Denny loves to be the one to take the kids to it. She works hard with them, then they go compete, and then they spend one more day in Albq having fun!
I took 3 of my students to town with me this past Thursday. They make up my ‘brute force’, willingly hefting loads of water bottles and Gatorade far too heavy for me. What a blessing.
We read I Corinthians 13, and 15 this past week in class. One student wrote, “Five hundred people saw Jesus? {ref. 15:6} Wow! Do you wish you did? I do.” I love their enthusiasm for my Lord Jesus. Yes, I am eager to see Him – and I will one day! Will you?
God bless and keep you. He takes great care of me.
Isn’t He good? Love, Becky
“My dear friends, stand firm and don’t be shaken. Always keep busy working for the Lord. You know that everything you do for Him is worthwhile.” (I Cor 15:58 CEV)
Becky has been on staff since 1989. She teaches 5th and 6th grade. She operates the candy store and handles the BoxTops for Education, which both directly benefit the school. February 8th, 2009 From: Kelli Wilson - Junior High Teacher Dear Friends and Family, The New Year took off like a rocket this year. February is here and I am just now beginning to catch my breath. I will try to hit the highlights without boring you too much. The Saturday after the first week of school, I was in North Carolina and was able to see a close friend of mine get married. It was such a wonderful weekend to be back with close friends from college. Many fun times were had!!! The next weekend I was off to an away, overnight basketball game. Our teams did wonderfully; they won all of their games. They also made me so proud of them with their wonderful sportsmanship. I was able to praise the Lord when I got to sleep in my own bed the next weekend J In class, things have been equally full. In Bible we have started studying Romans. It is such a delicious book to attempt to study. One week we were talking about the wrath of God and the next we were talking about righteousness, redemption, and justification. Part of me thinks, “Kelli, what on earth are you doing to these poor kids, expecting them to comprehend all that.” The other part of me is just having fun stretching and challenging them. Studying Romans has been a blessing and a challenge to me, and I think that my students are right up there with me. Some teachers ease their students back into learning after a long break, but I’m not that nice! In English we hit the ground running by spending the next 4 weeks in a writing workshop. The first few days, it was like pulling teeth, but then they became accustomed to it and now they are almost even comfortable with it. Yea!!! Keep praying for me and my class. I pretty much have lost one girl—she is no longer attending our school. It breaks my heart to even have to admit it—because I always have hope for her. I am comforted knowing that while I no longer have an influence in her life, she will always be in the Lord’s hands. I’m not sure that she was saved, but a few indicators pointed me in that direction. Another of my students rarely attends, and almost never attends on the days that I am preaching the gospel most directly. But he too, is in the Lord’s hands. As for the other students, they are growing in every way and it is a blessing to see and be a part of this era in their life. Thank you for you prayers as you share in this part of my life. In Christ, Kelli Wilson Kelli has been on staff since August 2007. She taught 1st Grade during her first year and now teaches Junior High. |
